This price is the private version: your own vehicle, your own pace, a licensed guide, and a start early enough to reach the ridge before the buses.
Cheaper shared seats exist all over Cusco. They leave later, wait for the slowest stranger, and arrive with the crowd. We sell the version we'd take our own parents on.

Season and availability
In the November–March rains the colors darken and the trail turns to mud — it's still walkable, but the postcard needs the May–September dry season. The price holds year-round; the experience doesn't.
Worth knowing
We schedule Vinicunca after acclimatization days, never first, and your itinerary gets a placed rest day after it. At this altitude that's not caution theater — it's what makes the day enjoyable.

- How hard is the Rainbow Mountain hike?
- The walk is short — about 5 km round trip — but it happens above 5,000 meters. With two or three days of acclimatization first, most reasonably fit travelers do it well. Horses can cover most of the trail if needed.
- Why is the private version worth it over a shared seat?
- Departure time. Private groups leave Cusco around 4 a.m. and own the ridge at sunrise; shared services arrive mid-morning with everyone else. Same mountain, different memory.
